Editor's note: The following story is from the CCHS newspaper The Centaurian. It is written by editor-in-chief Ariel Harvey.
It is the fourth quarter. The score is 24-21 to Culver until senior wide receiver/running back Jeremi Anderson, scored the game-winning touchdown with only minutes to go, assuring Culver’s spot as 2007 Ocean League champs. This also marks the first time in Culver City history the team has been undefeated, with a perfect 10-0 record.
The crowd is on their feet, screaming and stamping. Senior James Smith, the Centaur mascot, jumps on the gate separating the field and the crowd and starts the chant, “10 and 0! 10 and 0! Whose house? C House!”
The clock winds down to zero and members of the crowd leap onto their seats, jumping up and down with joy.
The scoreboard, after the after touchdown kick, reads “31-21”. The Centaurs are declared victorious.
In addition to Beverly, the team has gotten the better of St. Bernard, Point Loma, Gardena, Crenshaw, Redondo Union, Inglewood, Morningside, Santa Monica, and Hawthorne in succession.
